Waters Building: Gallery & Professional Offices
Historic / Corporate / Museum
The Waters Building, being over 100 years old, is an important historical piece to the downtown of Florence, SC. After the building has been left mostly vacant for a number of years, Key Architecture was hired to renovate this building into an important cultural space for downtown activity.
Restoration of the exterior has been accomplished by returning the facades to their historical appearance and repairing all broken/damaged elements. The beautiful and historical first level and mezzanine area will be annex museum space for the adjacent Florence Museum. These spaces have gorgeous column, beam, trim and stair details highlighted by a decorative tin ceiling that has all been magnificently restored.
The second and third levels are striking in the juxtaposition of historical old and pristine new. These top 2 levels have been transformed into office spaces several different tenants. Creativity and efficiency was required to organize several tenants around a central stair while giving each tenant individual restrooms and egress requirements. This project will continue the activation of the once dormant downtown into a lively cultural center.
